The Daughters of Penelope are a non-profit organization open to
all women
who are Philhellenes (friends of Hellenism). The Ancient Greeks called their
country Hellas and they were Hellenes. When the Romans conquered them they
changed the name to Grecia, which became Greece.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE GREEK TO JOIN THE DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE
As a Daughter of Penelope you are eligible to apply for Scholarships for your
children, grandchildren and neices. You need to be a Daughter of Penelope
in good standing for two years prior to applying (that means you have to attend
4 meetings per year).
You also have the benefit of meeting fellow lovers of Greek Culture and
learning such things as Greek cooking and dancing.
In this period of cuts in the history programs of our schools, it is vital
that we preserve the heritage of our Greek Culture that was so valiantly fought
for. The Greek Culture is the foundation of our Democratic way of
government. It is the basis of our Philosophy, Mathematics, Geometry,
Logical
Reasoning Plays, Music, Healing Arts and our Language.
It is vital that we keep this heritage strong and protect it from destruction
by dilution.
Our dues are only $45 per year
